CRISTINA SOUTOWOOD, M.A. – Associate

Cristina brings client facing, relationship building and organizational skills experience from her former career where she worked as a therapist and as an advisor at the University of Maryland.  A search for a new career led her to landscape architecture, where she melds her creative needs with a love of plants. Cristina excels at creative design solutions informed by her experience living abroad, her background in art and in psychology and how these two disciplines interplay to affect how we interact with our environment.

Originally from Lisbon, Portugal, Cristina has been living in the US since 1986.  She moved to La Mesa from the Washington DC metro area, and started working in the landscape architecture field in 2004. While at this firm, she worked on a variety of projects including several school revitalization projects, multiple large scale residential, commercial and civic projects, including the San Diego Zoo.

Cristina is known around the office for being passionate about increasing the urban tree canopy, and providing more shade trees in San Diego. She is on the Tree Steward Planning Committee of the non-profit Tree San Diego. She loves living in La Mesa (the Mayberry of San Diego), and is involved in local activities, which includes serving as a board member of La Mesa Beautiful.  She is also known around the office for her notorious ability to remember and relate almost anything back to her favorite movie quotes. Cristina lives in downtown La Mesa with her family.

A little known fact about Cristina is she lived on three different continents. Can you guess the third one?
