ANDREW SCHLESINGER, PLA, ASLA

Associate Landscape Architect

While pursuing his undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies at the University of Vermont, Andrew identified the crux of his developing professional passion - take the formidable challenge of climate change and distill it down to tangible, site specific, community-level design solutions. This career mission ultimately led Andrew to earn his graduate degree in Landscape Architecture (MLA) from Rutgers University in 2016.

Following his MLA, Andrew served as the Design & Agriculture Director at Elijah’s Promise, a nonprofit in Central New Jersey dedicated to fighting food insecurity and homelessness. Here, Andrew applied design for social good by implementing a network of award-winning community agriculture sites that reconnected residents to the land, demonstrated climate-adaptive farming techniques for urban environments, and sourced harvested produce as ingredients for fresh meals. As a grant writer, Andrew also helped acquire over $1 million in grant funding including receiving and managing a highly competitive Kresge Foundation FreshLo project.

Working as a Landscape Designer for M+B+C Associates after Elijah’s Promise, Andrew developed his general design skills and his ability to create project concepts, rendered landscape plans, 3D models, and technical drawing sets for varied project scopes and scales. Andrew also helped facilitate a series of public design charrettes in New York City and oversaw the design and construction of an award-winning urban garden benefitting the Boys & Girls Club of Jersey City, NJ during Covid-19.

In Spring 2021, Andrew started his own design+build company, Rewild Design, as an opportunity to gain additional hands-on knowledge and project management experience designing and installing plant-centric, native, and drought-tolerant residential landscapes.

Building on his more than five years of project management and design experience, Andrew is excited to relocate to the West Coast as he joins McCullough's talented team as an Associate Landscape Designer. Andrew brings his passion for leveraging landscape architecture to promote climate-positive and community-led design solutions. When out of office, Andrew plans to explore the lesser-known surf breaks, famed municipal golf courses, beautiful hiking trails, and best burrito spots in Greater San Diego!

A little-known fact about Andrew is that he was born with heterochromia — both of his eyes are blue and brown. This may help to explain why Andrew sees the world a little differently than most people!
