SOPHIA RUMPF

Junior Associate

For as long as she can remember, Sophia has always had an appreciation for the natural and built environment. While on family trips in her younger years she observed how cities have completely different “styles”. This intrigued her. She became obsessed with small details of these places: like the moss that dangled from the trees in Charleston and the huge shiny flat leaves in Kauai. Places could be so different yet both uniquely beautiful. Some spaces give a feeling of safety and comfort while others can inspire wonder and awe. Little did she know there was a whole world of study and practice that involved using natural elements like these to create beautiful spaces that people enjoy.

Fast forward years later, and Sophia has earned a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with an emphasis on sustainable environments. Her education reinforced the observations she made growing up and expanded her inspiration tenfold. Learning more about the pressing environmental challenges of the 21st century has inspired her to seek out a career where she can combine theories to inspire design that not only improves people’s well-being but benefits the natural environment as well.

On a more personal note, outside of work Sophia loves to spend time in nature or being creative. She loves to cook, sing, and paint and is always down for a swim in the ocean, a sunset picnic, or a competitive game night with friends. San Diego has become her second home and she is happy to be collaborating with the McCullough team to create beautiful and impactful spaces and have some fun along the way!

A little-known fact about Sophia is that she absolutely loves critters, especially frogs, snakes, and lizards. She is known for this among family and friends and was even gifted a bearded dragon for her 21st birthday! Dexter the bearded dragon now happily resides in La Jolla and enjoys roaming around the house, eating Sophia’s house plants and finding sunny spots to relax.
